Rain... a four letter word that seems to be just
driving all of us involved in the business motorsports crazy. There
have probably been seasons where there has been more rain in the early
season but I just don't remember it. And I have been in this sport for
more than 40 years. Last Friday night, June 14, East Windsor, NJ
Speedway was rained out for the second straight week. Thursday night
rain, rain on Friday morning, rain in the afternoon, just made it
impossible to race.
The battle for the 2002 Modified stock car driving title at the East Windsor, NJ Speedway will be in the spotlight on Friday, June 21, with the running of the Twin-20 lap main events. Both Big Block and Small-Block powered dirt track modified stock cars are invited to compete on the half-mile clay oval. East Windsor is the only speedway that offers race fans to see Billy Pauch, Kenny Brightbill, Jimmy Horton, Doug Hoffman and other top names all competing on the same night in Modified racing action. Street stocks and sportsman stock cars will be part of the Friday night show but there will be no limited sprint cars on that night. Racing will start at 7:30 p.m. Coming up on Friday, June 28th, the popular oval will include a feature, just a feature race, for 360 sprint cars. That will be the first time for the 360s in a number of years at East Windsor Speedway. It will be interesting to see who shows up to run. GREG HODNETT won the 410 sprint car feature race at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night while the United Racing Club sprint car feature was won by Pete Green. The show was run in a misty rain that keep the attendance figure down to a level where there may have been more people in the pit area than in the grandstands. Coming up this Friday is 410 sprint car racing along with the 358 sprint cars. And the same show is set for Friday, June 28. On July 5, the Mitch Smith Memorial will be presented for the 410 sprint cars. The event will pay $10,000 to win so you can pretty much assume that every top name in sprint car racing will be there. Mitch Smith was one of the all time great sprint car racers in Central Pennsy and perhaps, in the nation. Racing starts at 8 p.m. each Friday night. RAIN washed out the action at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA. With heavy rain on Thursday and Friday, the events were cancelled early. The NASCAR Modifieds will be back in action at the 3/8th mile clay oval on Friday at 8 p.m. with the sportsman and roadrunners making up the rest of the tripleheader show. It will be sponsored by Kreiser Racing Fuels. TRAIL-WAY SPEEDWAY will host the first NRA Disabled Shooting Services "Night at the Races". Any current member of the National Rifle Association, who presents his or her membership card at the speedway entrance, will receive a dollar off of the regular admission price. The news release sent to us from Trail-Way Speedway told us plenty about the National Rifle Association Night but did not tell us what and who was racing on Friday night. We are going to take for granted that micro sprints will be racing. Better call the track at 717.359.4310 to be sure. SUSQUEHANNA SPEEDWAY fell victim to the rains on Friday night. The Super Late Models and 358 Modifieds will return to action on Friday, June 21. Also on the schedule for the 7:45 p.m. show will be PA 4-Cylinder stocks, the Central PA Legends cars and a double feature for Enduros. This could be a big cushion so you can be comfortable for all that racing. York County Racing Club will sponsor the night. CLINTON COUNTY SPEEDWAY in Lock Haven, PA was fortunate enough to get their show in despite the rain. Daryl Stimeling recorded his ninth feature victory in Sprint Car competition. Other winners included Dale Schweikart in the Super Stocks, Robert Tressler in Four Cylinder competition and Dave Riddell won the Daredevil race. The Speedway will return to action on Friday, June 21, with a 7:30 p.m. show that will include Late Models, Super Stocks, Four Cylinders and Daredevils. The sprint cars will return on a later date. It had been planned to run sprint cars as part of 10 shows. PATH VALLEY SPEEDWAY IN SPRING RUN, PA rained out both the Friday and Saturday show. Seven main events are on the schedule for Friday night, June 21. The PA 305 sprints, 600 micro sprints and 270 micro sprints will run along with the V-8 Street stocks performing in double features. The mini stocks and four cylinder thunder cars will also race. The American Motorcyclist Association District 6 points race for bikes and quads will be run along with karts and four-wheelers. And on Sunday the Pennsylvania Dirt Karters Association karts return for the third of the series of six races in the Pennsylvania State Championship Series. More than 250 of the best karters from across Pennsylvania and adjoining states are expected for PDKA event. For information telephone 717.349.7111. GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY in Bechtelsville, PA got rained on just as they were opening the gates to leave the spectators in for the Chuck Sennott Memorial Late Model race. The events were rained out. NASCAR Modifieds and NASCAR Late Models will return on Saturday, June 22, for Deka Batteries Night and the Chuck Sennott Memorial Late Model 30-lap feature will be part of the program. |
Racing will start at 7:30 p.m. Coming up at Grandview Speedway
on Sunday, June 30th, the CARQUEST PA Speed Weeks Sprint show will be
presented with 410 sprints and KARS 358 sprints being featured.
BRIDGEPORT, NJ SPEEDWAY had a pit full of racers ready for action. Promoter Bill Lincoln and his crew spent a few hours trying to get the track in shape to race after rain had hit at 6 p.m. This mixed with the heavy rains from Thursday and Friday forced Lincoln to cancel the night of racing. Coming up on Friday on the small track at 7 p.m. there will be racing for the micro sprints and 4 cylinder racers plus racing for street stocks and Outlaw stocks. The United Racing Club sprint cars will be there on Saturday at 6 p.m. along with Big Block Modifieds and Sportsman stock cars. Information is available at 856.467.4408 during regular business hours. AFTER NOT KNOWING WHETHER or not he would have a racecar to compete in at the start of the season and then totaling a pair of racers, Royersford's Brian Buckwalter's luck has finally taken a turn for the better. A month ago, he landed a ride with Van Hulle Motorsports and then he flipped two cars. But now he is a winner as Buckwalter claimed Selinsgrove Speedway's 25-lap sprint car feature on Saturday night to claim $1,000. "I didn't know which end was up for a while there," said Buckwalter. "But I have got to thank Rich Van Hulle and this whole 56V team because this thing is just awesome." Buckwalter also pointed out, in victory lane, that he had gotten behind in his finances and he was unable to run his own deal. 35 sprint cars were on hand. Joe Whitcomb won the $500 Dave's Lawn Care Five-Lap Dash for Cash. In the 20-lap late model feature wins went to Scott who had a half lap lead on the field at the finish. Peanut Heintzelman on the 12-lap pro stock feature and Matt Drum led all the laps to take the Roadrunner win. Timber Wolf Racing Night happens at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday with sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners. There is no time given for the start of racing on Saturday so we will guess at 7:30 p.m. PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY had Todd Shaffer win his second 25-lap Aumiller's Insurance Sprint Car feature in a row. Shaffer inherited the lead from Keith Kauffman on the 23 lap when Kauffman had a tire let go. Bill Powell won the 12-lap Stong's Auto Parts Pro Stock feature. The 30-lap Enduro Dash was won by Scott Hopple. On Saturday night at 7 p.m. there will be sprint cars, late models and pro stocks. Kids Night that had been planned for this Saturday has been moved to July 13. MIKE RUTHERFORD won another feature in micro sprint competition at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. Rutherford won the 250cc Two-Strokes, Barry Hinerdeer won the 250cc Four-Stroke feature while Mike Miller was tops in 125cc and Michele Miller won in the sportsman division. There will be four 25-lap features on Saturday at 6 p.m. GREG HODNETT GOT HIS SECOND WIN of the weekend topping the field in the 410 sprint car feature at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night. This was the third win of the season at Lincoln. Chris Coyle won the 25-lap United Racing Club sprint car feature race. Two-time Lincoln 410 sprint winner Dave Ely finished second. Mike Walls won the 20-lap Thundercar feature. This Saturday night, June 22nd, the super sprint and thundercar regulars will be joined by the Silver Spring Limited Late Models for the second time this season. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. AT HAGERSTOWN, MD SPEEDWAY Gary STUHLER WON THE 35-LAP Shorty Bowers/Bull Durham Memorial. Dave Rice Jr. won the Hoosier Daddy 25-lap Late Model sportsman feature. Eugene Conlee was tops in the 15-lap pure stock main event. On Saturday night the final round of the four race Hagerstown/Winchester Speedways Shootout Series for the ITSI late models. Also on the program will be the late model sportsman. Race time is 7 p.m. JIMMY SHUTTLESWORTH came from 21st starting position to win his second Sportsman feature of the season at Silver Spring Speedway. In the ACDelco Late Model feature Bud Witmer won and in the Sutliff Street Stock feature Rodney Clauser won the 20-lapper. Steve Wilbur in the Auto Locator entry won the special Cash Dash. Unfortunately there was no mention made of what is running this Saturday night at Silver Spring Speedway. Ernie Saxton can be reached at Esaxton144@aol.com |
