There was some rain impacting auto racing events this weekend but, at least, there were some events that were able to beat Ma Nature.
WITH 13 WEATHER CANCELLATIONS so far this season the folks at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA had to be happy to be able to get the Friday night show in.
Rookie Adrian Schaffer won the 25-lap sprint car feature and veteran Paul Troutman took home the trophy in the super sportsman competition for his first career victory.
Schaffer's win came in just his fourth start in a 410 sprint car. He has been one of the top talents in area 358 sprint car competition. The victory was worth $3,000 to the young driver.
Cris Eash gave Schaffer a battle for the win but had to settle for second followed by Fred Rahmer. Greg Hodnett got fourth while Len Thompson earned a fifth in the 410 sprint feature.
Rahmer, one of the big winners in area sprint car competition each season, is still without a win.
Pat Cannon earned a strong second to Troutman in the 20-lap Super Sportsman feature while Duaine Smith grabbed a third.
This Friday night, 8 p.m. the 410 sprints will be in action along with the 358 sprint cars. The top four finishers from the special Tony Stewart Thursday night show, will start at the back of the feature field and try to charge to the front for a victory.
