GUESS WHAT? It rained again this weekend.
All the Saturday night tracks were rained out. The
cancellations came early in the day. Weather forecasters said
it was 100% that it would rain. They were right. It rained so
much that I am told even the ducks are disgusted. That ark
that guy was building, we are told it sank. And some tracks
have been considering boat racing. However this weekend they
will all be trying again and hoping for a weekend without
rain.
WHEN TONY STEWART came to Williams Grove Speedway on June 5 he climbed into a dirt track modified and won the 20 lap CARQUEST Challenge race. He beat Dave Blaney to the finish line. Billy Pauch, who had an impressive early run, seemed to drive a different race in the second half than he did in the first half, and that allowed Stewart and Blaney to get by. Some say that in the early evening driver's meeting officials told all the drivers that the 20-lapper was pretty much an exhibition event and Stewart and Blaney should be left to look good. Apparently having Tony Stewart and Dave Blaney there for the special night was not a big deal for many since the crowd was somewhat disappointing but those on hand really enjoyed the show. 800 fans were able to go home with a Tony Stewart autograph. And Fred Rahmer, who we are told had a wheel fall off his modified in the CARQUEST Challenge race (only three cars finished), came back to win his first 410 sprint car feature of the season. It was the 53rd win of his career at Williams Grove Speedway. Second spot went to Cris Eash followed by Todd Shaffer and Lance Dewease. ON FRIDAY NIGHT the 410 sprints were back in action. The top four finishers from the Thursday night sprint race got to start at the back of the pack in the Friday night feature. If one of the four back of the pack starters was able to win a $10,000 bonus would have been paid. It did not happen. Greg Hodnett won the 25-lapper followed by Sean Michael, Mark Smith, Keith Kauffman and Rick Lafferty. The first of the "fab four" from Thursday night show to finish was Lance Dewease in sixth. Cory Haas won the 358 sprint car feature. At Williams Grove Speedway this Friday, June 13, 8 p.m. twin 20-lap features for sprints will be presented. DOUG HOFFMAN won the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified feature on Friday night. His first win of the season and it came in a new ride. Hoffman replaced Steve Bottcher in the Klinger Motorsports/Kerry Hertzog Auto Sales #77 owned by Dennis "Moose"Eisenhart. Hoffman is the current point leader in the modified division at Big Diamond. Craig Whitmoyer won the 20-lap main event for the Sportsman Modifieds and Doug Hendricks continues to dominate in the Roadrunners winning on Friday night and that means he has won all the features run this season. The Doorways Unlimited KARS 358-Sprint Series will combine with the North Carolina based American Outlaw Action Series sprint organization to run at Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night, June 13th. Racing starts at 8 p.m. The Selinsgrove Speedway sprints are also invited to participate. The NASCAR Modifieds will be part of the show as will the Roadrunners. The DIRT Big Block Modified boys get DOWN, DIRTY & WILD in the 100-lap Super DIRT Series event at Big Diamond on Wednesday night, June 18th. This will be the first appearance for the Super DIRT racers at the 3/8th-mile clay track. Many of the locals will go up against the visitors in a great evening of modified stock car racing. Race time on June 18th will be 7:30 p.m. IT WAS A STANDING ROOM ONLY CROWD at Clinton County Speedway on Friday night. Why not standing room? Admission was FREE. Jeff Weaver won the sprint feature. Todd Williams won the Daredevils main event and it was Jake Shady winning the Super Stock feature. Kyle Parson won the Pro Stock feature, Jeff Chambers was first in the Enduro feature and Dave Riddell won the make-up Daredevil feature. The Free Admission Night was sponsored by The Clinton Country Economic Partnership, Avis America Homes, Bill MacIntyre -The GM Giant, First Quality Enterprises and Clear Channel Communications. Racing returns to Clinton County Speedway this Friday, June 13, but you will have to pay to get in. This will be a five division show of sprints, super stocks, pro stocks, daredevils and Enduros. And the future racers of the speedway will compete in a kid's power wheels event. No time given for the start of the racing action so you will have to check their website at www.clintoncountyracing.com. FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE SATURDAY NIGHT NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA was rained out. The United Racing Club sprint cars and NASCAR Modifieds were scheduled. The URC sprints have not been rescheduled for a Saturday night date. This Saturday, June 14, the U.S.Army will be at Grandview Speedway to sign up new enlistees and sponsor the night of racing. The NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models will be featured in at least 13 events of stock car racing starting at 7:30 p.m. |
SELINSGROVE, PA SPEEDWAY rained out on Saturday

TORRENTIAL RAINS swept through Central Pennsylvania and forced the folks at Lincoln Speedway to cancel their Saturday night show of sprint car racing. The rainout was the fifth of the season at Lincoln and that is a track that is usually the very last to "throw in the towel" on wet day. The special 358 Sprint wingless show that was scheduled on Saturday night has been reset TENTATIVELY for Saturday, July 19th in conjunction with the Daryl Gohn/Glenn Gohn Sr. Memorial. This will allow the 358 sprinters the opportunity to practice without top wings in their one appearance schedule before July 19th and that will be on Saturday, July 5th. The United Racing Club sprint cars will visit Lincoln Speedway for their only appearance at the Pigeon Hills oval in 2003. Also part of the Saturday night, 7:30 p.m. show will be the Cindy Rowe Paintless Dent Removal 410 Sprints and Thundercars. And you can always check in for Lincoln Speedway news at www.lincolnspeedway.com. Coming up at Lincoln on June 28th is the very popular prestigious Pennsylvania Speedweek/4th Annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial. This will be sprints and thundercars. HAGERSTOWN, MD SPEEDWAY had flash flood warnings to go along with the heavy rain so they decided to close down. It was the tenth program lost to weather this season. The weather was so bad that the local river overflowed and flooded the infield competition area. This Saturday, June 14th, 7 p.m., the Father's Day EXTRAVAGANZA will be presented. The night features the ITSI Family Night and the 8th Annual Richard "Boney" Bonebrake Tribute for the ITSI Late Models. In addition the HTMA Hoosier Daddy 25 for the Late Model Sportsman will be presented along with Ernie's Salvage Yard Pure Stocks. THE FOLKS WHO RUN THINGS AT PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY AND TRAIL-WAY SPEEDWAY may have been washed away with all the rain. Nothing heard from them regarding their racing plans for this coming weekend. NEW EGYPT, NJ SPEEDWAY continues to suffer the same rain problems that have hit all the other area Saturday night promotions. Promoter Rick Grosso Sr. said, "Three rainouts in a row - it's unheard of! In the past six years, we haven't seen weather this bad for this long." This Saturday night, June 14th, 5:30 p.m. Cream Ridge Golf Club sponsors Dad's Appreciation Night. And the Mid-State Communications Graduation Day for the Rookie Series, which was cancelled on Saturday due to weather. And there will be a Senior Masters Challenge which has dads of drivers compete in three invitational race matches. And there will be Big Block Modifieds, Sportsman and Super Stock racing action. Coming up on Tuesday, June 17th, the Advance Auto Parts SuperDIRT Series Garden State Gunfight, sponsored by Haldeman Ford of Hamilton, NJ The 100-lap Modified shootout will feature some of the top names in dirt track modified stock car racing. BRIDGEPORT, NJ SPEEDWAY had their 14th event of the season canceled because of rain on Saturday night.
