WILL THERE BE a weekend this season that does not include rain playing a part in the schedule of events?
With weather forecasters painting a picture of great weather all weekend it came as a big surprise when a band of thunderstorms rolled through Western Maryland and washed out the tripleheader show of stock car racing at Hagerstown, MD Speedway on Saturday night. It was the 12th event lost to weather this season at Hagerstown.
This week the Ford Trucks Monster Jam rolls into town for three action-packed programs on Friday and Saturday nights, July 18th & 19th, and a special Sunday afternoon show on July 20th. Action gets underway at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and 2 p.m. on Sunday. For more information about the Monster Truck Jam by Ford Trucks, checkout the Hagerstown, MD Speedway website at www.hagerstownspeedway.com.
GREG HODNETT led an impressive sweep by the Pennsylvania Posse over the traveling All Star Circuit of Champions in the 30-lap feature Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
It was Hodnett's fifth win of the season at The Grove and his 19th career win at the legendary clay oval. Second spot went to Lance Dewease followed by Keith Kauffman.
Fred Rahmer, who had won the title in the recent PA Sprint Speedweek Series for the seventh time, finished sixth.
The 358 sprints will join the 410 sprints in a doubleheader show of action at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, July 18th. Many of the 410 sprint racers will be using the night to getting tuned-up for the invasion of the O'Reilly World of Outlaws sprint cars for three nights of racing starting on July 24th.
FRIDAY NIGHT ACTION at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA had Billy Pauch Sr. grabbing his 599th career victory and it came in the 25-lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified stock car race. For Pauch it was his first win of the season at the 3/8th-mile clay oval. Craig VonDohren finished second followed by defending track champion Keith Hoffman.
Craig Whitmoyer took the top spot in the 20-lap main event for Sportsman-Modifieds while Doug Hendricks got his fifth win of the season in the 15-lap feature for the Roadrunners.
Racing action is presented every Friday night, 8 p.m., at Big Diamond Raceway and this Friday it will be United Racing Club sprint cars, NASCAR Modifieds and Roadrunners. This will be the last appearance of the season for the URC sprint racers at Big Diamond.
BLANE HEIMBACH continues to be the man to beat in sprint car racing at Clinton County Speedway in Lock Haven, PA. This past Friday Heimbach earned his sixth win of the season in the 25 lap Super Sprint car feature.
"The car was awesome tonight," said Heimbach in victory lane. "Jeff and Missy Creasy (car owners) provide the equipment that allows us to win."
Second spot went to Daryl Stimeling.
In the 20-lap feature for Super Stocks Jeremy Ohl got his first career victory and Terry Goshorn won the 4-Cylinder Pro Stock feature. Dave Riddel continued to run strong in the Daredevils as he won another feature and it was Darren Lucas getting the top spot in the 50-lap Four Cylinder Enduro.
Another five division night of racing will be presented at Clinton County Speedway on Friday, July 18th. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Included in the show will be a special mid-summer championship event for Super Stocks along with regular events for the Super Sprint cars, Daredevils, Pro Stocks and Enduro cars.
RIM-RIDING BILLY DIETRICH stormed to his third win of the season in the 20-lap "358" sprint car feature race at Trail-Way Speedway on Friday night. Billy's dad was not so lucky as Dan took a wild flip that virtually destroyed his race car earlier in the evening. Fortunately dad was OK and was in victory lane to congratulate his son.
Craig Wagaman dominated the 20-lap Thundercar feature getting his first win of the season.
Chris Holston passed three-time winner Don Owens on the next to last lap tow in the 15-lap Street Stock feature race.
Checkered Flag Fan Club will be on hand to "sponsor" the two nights of racing at Trail-Way Speedway this weekend. On Friday night, July 18th, it will be the Coors Light 358 winged sprints, thundercars and street stocks starting at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday night at 7 p.m. the Micro Sprints (250cc and 600cc) will run in double-point events, and will be joined by the 4-cylinder stocks, 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder scramble cars, figure 8's and the new scramble oval cars.
BOB GUTSHALL gave his car owner the best possible birthday present Saturday night - a win at Silver Spring Speedway.
Pat Cannon got second in a close battle that had him just inches behind at the finish in the Super Sportsman main event.
Stan Wanner won the 20-lap Street Stock feature while Gene Wrightstone started on the pole and led every lap to win the late model feature.
The 51st Anniversary Celebration is set at Silver Spring on Saturday, July 19. Included in the special night of racing will be a 51-lap feature for the Super Sportsman plus racing for the Late Model stocks and Street Stocks. Racing starts at 7 p.m.
LANCE DEWEASE, the points leader at Lincoln Speedway, ended a long dry spell when he dove under Greg Hodnett in turn one of lap 24 and drove away to a 1.48-second win over the nation's third-ranked sprint car driver in the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win event sanctioned by the All Star Circuit of Champions.
"The 12 car (Hodnett) has been making us look bad, and we kinda' fell off the pace the last month," said Dewease in victory lane. "I kept telling 'em (the team), 'We just need to work hard at it, and we'll get it.' We were pretty good tonight…I passed him two different times and the cautionss took it away from us, but we made sure that last one stuck."
Hodnett held on for second followed by Cris Eash.
Mike Walls won his second in-a-row in the Thundercar feature that went 20 laps.
The annual Daryl Gohn/Glenn Gohn Sr. Memorial is presented for the 410 sprint cars on Saturday, July 19th. There will be car show from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the speedway grounds. And for those who attend the show there will be free hot dogs, sodas and chips.
There will be a load of prizes for fans.
The 410 sprint cars will be joined by the 358 sprints and Thundercars.
AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY on Saturday night Doug Manmiller  won his second of the season in the first 30-lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified stock car race. Second spot went to Kenny Gilmore.
And in the second 30-lap Modified feature multi-time champion Craig VonDohren won his first of the season. Jeff Strunk, the current point leader in the Modifieds, finished a strong second.
The Late Model feature went to Brian Shuey, his first ever at Grandview Speedway.
Jeff Strunk continues to lead the NASCAR New England Regional point standings which could be worth $45,000 to the champion at the end of the season.
Hatfield Quality Meats Night is set at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, July 19th at 7:30 p.m. SMILEY, the Hatfield mascot, will be there to shoot hot dogs and t-shirts into the stands. And the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models will be the attraction with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.

TODD SHAFFER won the 25-lap sprint car feature at Port Royal Speedway with Keith Kauffman grabbing second. Len Thompson had a strong third.
In the Late Models Scotty Haus topped the field in the main event and the Pro Stock feature Neil Foust was the top performer.
We will take for granted that the same class of competition will be back on Saturday night though the information received from the track did not indicate what was being run.
STEVE KINSER, "King of the Outlaws," tops the summer edition of the National 410 Sprint Car Poll. Kinser claimed 26 of 29 first place votes tabbed by the voting panel. The reason I mention this is that the World of Outlaw sprint cars will be in the area July 24-26 racing at Williams Grove Speedway and Kinser will lead the program.
Steve Kinser topped the voting with Outlaw point leader Danny Lasoski getting just one vote for first place and that earned him second in the tally. Greg Hodnett, on a hot streak in this area, was third in voting followed by Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Chad Kemenah, Daryn Pittman, Paul McMahan, Lance Dewease and Tim Shaffer.
Local talent Fred Rahmer got a 16th in the national ratings and Keith Kauffman got an "honorable mention."
Keep in mind the ARCA RE/MAX Series racers are in action twice next week at Pocono Raceway. The first event will be run on Friday, rained out in June, and the second ARCA event will be on Saturday afternoon. The Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race will be presented on Sunday, July 27th.
We understand that there are still very good seats available for all the events.
