THE OUTLAWS ARE COMING….AGAIN. On Friday evening, July 16, the sprint car teams at Williams Grove Speedway will have one final opportunity to prepare for the Cleveland Brothers Summer Nationals.
The limited (358 c.i.) sprints will also be on the card. Qualifying will begin at 7:45.
Time trials will set the lineups for the sprint car teams just as they will for the first two nights of the World of Outlaws-sanctioned Summer Nationals coming up July 22-24.
Since the Outlaws compete in time trials nearly a hundred times per year, Williams Grove officials are offering the track regulars an opportunity to race against the clock this week to test their qualifying setups for the Summer Nationals.
Time trials have been run at the Grove on five occasions this season.  Keith Kauffman set fast time at the Early Bird Championship on April 9 with a lap of 16.840.  Todd Hestor was fast qualifier on May 21 at 16.420.  Steve Kinser and Greg Hodnett set fast time for the May Outlaw races at 16.675 and 17.617 respectively.  And Hodnett was fast qualifier for the recent Mitch Smith Memorial at 16.615.
The May 21 pre-Outlaw time trial session may have leveled the playing field somewhat since local drivers Fred Rahmer and Don Kreitz, Jr. swept both WoO events on May 27-28.
That was the first time two different local drivers combined for a two-day sweep of the Outlaws at Williams Grove since 1980 when Billy Stief won on July 25 and Keith Kauffman won on July 26.
Several local teams have completed individual sweeps since 1980. Bobby Davis did it for car owner Bob Weikert in 1983 and Doug Wolfgang also swept for Weikert in 1986.  Stevie Smith swept the 1989 National Open for Al Hamilton and Lance Dewease did the same for Walter Dyer in 1996.
The Cleveland Brothers Summer Nationals will mark the 25th anniversary of the World of Outlaws first visit to Williams Grove Speedway.
Reserved seats are still available for all three nights of the Summer Nationals and credit card orders are accepted at 717.697.5000.

Last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway two seventeen year old racers made history. Lucas Wolfe won the 25-lap 410 sprint car feature and Kyle Purks was tops in the 358 sprint car feature. Each became the youngest drivers in history to win feature races at the legendary oval. Williams Grove Speedway has been presenting auto racing events since 1939.

Wolfe will be starting his senior year at nearby Cumberland Valley High School.

Point leader Fred Rahmer was in front of the pack on the 20th lap when he had to head to the pits with mechanical problems giving the lead to Wolfe.
